Bon voyage, sketchbook

Through SCBWI, I had the pleasure of participating in a fun little project with a traveling sketchbook.

I wanted to paint a place I would want to walk into and explore... a cozy cafe with a cat seemed just about right.

Inktober Eve

It's that time of year again! I'm getting excited for my third year doing this 31-day drawing challenge. (Which was initiated by the talented Jake Parker, who is also the brain behind World Art Drop Day.)

I'll be Instagramming my daily ink drawings, but for those not on the Insta, I dedicated a page of the blog to posting them.

Handwriting.

Where did September go?? Here is the prompt of "handwriting" for #12monthsofpaint

Book Preview

I'm thrilled to be able to share a little glimpse at a project that's been in the works since last March: illustrating a children's book entitled "What Would I Do?" written by Moe Hebert.

The book explores warm and often humorous situations based on each letter of the alphabet. Here is a sneak peek at one of the spreads: V for Violinist.

Following in the footsteps of Beatrix Potter and Mark Twain, we are self-publishing. The book will be available in December of this year through Amazon.com. Stay tuned for more updates!

Water.

Whenever I can implement the yellow and gray color combo, I'm a happy camper.

This month's theme for the 12 months of paint challenge is "water".

Fruit.

The July theme for the #12monthsofpaint challenge is Fruit. With a new season of "The Great British Baking Show" underway, how could I not paint a fruity dessert? Go #TeamFlora!

I'm officially hanging my shingle on Etsy! I have some handmade watercolor notecards and some prints of illustrations. Keep visiting for future items: I plan on putting up some original watercolor paintings soon.

37 Rue de la Bûcherie

I read "A Moveable Feast" by Hemmingway, which chronicles his time as a writer in 1920s Paris. When I wasn't yearning to be a bohemian artist in the City of Love I sketched this little lady looking through books at Shakespeare & Co. - one of the frequent haunts for Mr. Hemmingway in his book.

Churchill

I watched an excellent documentary on Winston Churchill called "Walking with Destiny." Turns out, when he wasn't saving England from Nazism, he loved to be in his garden and feed birds. The image of this burly, cigar-smoking man feeding a little sparrow was too adorable not to draw.
