On Saturdays my Mom and I have a tent at our local farmers' market and this illustration is filled with details from all the farm stands that surround us. Primarily, it grew from the fact that our neighbor is a friendly farmer who wears grey Converse sneakers. I knew I had to draw him with those shoes somehow! and everything just fell into place around that. The gorgeous vegetables were referenced from a stand across from us; the bucket of sunflowers from a stand down the path; the upside-down "Lettuce" box was also a detail taken from another stand; and the unruly box of corn was two tents down.
