airbrushing 101

before

masking

after

Over the past few days my dad, also an artist, has been giving me airbrush lessons. As a novice, pointing an airbrush at a nearly finished piece and pulling the trigger is almost like putting a beloved child in front of a firing squad. I think the result was worth the risk. Airbrush is able to give the effects of soft shadows that a brush just couldn't accomplish.

This is for my Alma Mater's alumni art exhibit. If you are near Houghton College, check it out!

I listened to this song repeatedly while working on this piece, and I still can't get it out of my head.
